Muscle loss associated with aging

Muscle loss starts early. Muscle tissue undergoes a slow degeneration of the order of 3 to 8% per decade in favor of fat since the age of 301. Thus, between 20 and 30 years, the percentage of muscle mass represents 30% of body mass and represents only 17% at 70 years old. Finally, between 25 and 75 years, muscle mass decreases by half !

When muscle loss reaches a certain level, it leads to a pathology : the sarcopenia2.

Preserving muscle mass throughout his life and detect muscle loss seem essential to promote successful aging.
